Over fall break, staff member Nicole and her three kiddos visited Give Kids the World Village in Kissimmee, Florida, where they decorated a Hoggy themed Christmas tree for wish kids! 🎄🐷 Give Kids the World Village is a nonprofit organization in an 89-acre storybook resort for critically ill children. Wish granting organizations such as Make-A-Wish and Dream Factory, with chapters based in Lexington, send many kiddos from Kentucky to experience The Village each year. Run by the generosity of volunteers and charitable donations, it is here that these kids are able to escape the complexities of hospitals and doctors’ offices to experience magical week-long vacations designed with accessibility and life enhancement in mind. Nicole’s daughter, Leorah, was one such kid. Diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at just 6 years old, she was a “wish” recipient at The Village in 2022. Now, Nicole and her kids come back to visit The Village regularly and love to join the other volunteers in serving current wish families facing terminal or life-altering diagnoses. Thank you, Nicole, for bringing kids the joy of Hogg Therapy Pediatrics all the way to Florida this season! ✨

✨🎗️September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month 🎗️✨ Meet Leorah, the daughter of HTP staff member Nicole. At just 6 years old, Leorah was diagnosed with Stage 4 Burkitt Leukemia in May 2020. She had tumors in her colon and throughout her liver, and at its worst, the cancer spread into over 70% of her bone marrow. Today, nearly 5 years in remission, Leorah will officially be declared “cured” this November! 💛 While her story is full of hope, it’s important to remember that many childhood cancer patients, like Leorah, face long-term side effects from chemotherapy and may need ongoing therapeutic care. Leorah is still immunosuppressed and receives weekly IG infusions. Together, Leorah and her mom have become powerful advocates for Childhood Cancer Awareness. They are active in survivorship programs including Kids Cancer Alliance, Kosair Charities, A Kid Again, and the UK DanceBlue Oncology and Hematology Clinic. They also volunteer with Give Kids the World Village, serving families of children with terminal and life-threatening conditions. And that’s not all—Leorah and Nicole are publishing a children’s book, originally written by Leorah during her treatment, to inspire other kids to find strength and light through their own journeys. 💛 #childhoodcancerawareness
