Occupational THerapy

Our pediatric occupational therapists can help your child develop the skills they need in order to grow into functional, independent adults. A child’s "occupation" is play! Children learn how to interact with others, care for themselves, and develop through play. Through our evaluation process, we will determine which areas of skill development might need advancement. We will work with you and your family to help your child reach all developmental milestones. We believe each and every child deserves to be supported and given the chance to learn and master skills that allow them to succeed throughout their life.

  • Does my child need Occupational Therapy?

    Once we determine your child’s needs, through standardized assessments and interviews with the family, we will put together a plan for his/her care. These areas may include:


    • improving coordination skills and balance during gross play activities
    • developing age-appropriate play and social interaction skills
    • developing hygiene and self-help skills that are appropriate for the child’s age
    • fine motor coordination- including how to properly hold a pencil or manipulate a toy.

  • Fine Motor Skills

    Fine Motor Skills are any small movements of the hands, wrists, and especially the fingers. Examples include holding small items, manipulating objects like clothespins and paper clips, writing, completing clothing fasteners, or turning the pages in a book. Mastery of these skills is imperative to proper development.


    As with most skills, the achievement of fine motor milestones depends on the mastery of the skills that came before. Before we can complete small shirt buttons, we must be able to grasp and place simpler items, such as completing a puzzle. The earlier your child receives the assistance he/she needs, the more effective intervention will be!
